Jose Mourinho has a number of injury concerns ahead of the game against United, with doubts over the fitness of both Giovani Lo Celso and Heung-min Son. This game will also be too soon for Gareth Bale, who is not quite ready to feature just yet.
Tottenham’s summer signing Sergio Reguilon is set to make his Premier League debut for the club at left-back, against a club he was heavily linked with before joining Mourinho’s side.
So, what will the final score be? And what team will Mourinho go with against United?
We used FIFA 21 to simulate the outcome of the game.
Manchester United vs Tottenham score predicted by FIFA 21
To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn’t select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.
The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.
We predict that United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Matic, Fernandes, Pogba; Rashford, Martial, Greenwood.
We predict that Spurs could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with the line-up as follows: Lloris; Aurier, Dier, Sanchez, Reguilon; Lo Celso, Hojbjerg, Ndombele; Lamela, Kane, Lucas.
In our simulated game, Manchester United started the better of the two sides and were controlling the game in the opening ten minutes, with Spurs initially happy to sit back and absorb the pressure.
And it seemed to be working for the away side, but in the 14th minute, United found an opener.
Paul Pogba received the ball just inside the area after a great pass from Anthony Martial, with Pogba taking a touch and curling the ball into the top corner with Lloris having no chance.
United continued to dominate the half and very nearly doubled their lead just before half-time, with Bruno Fernandes taking a corner and finding Harry Maguire unmarked, but the centre-back’s effort went just wide of the post.
After the break, Spurs were much-improved, with Jose Mourinho’s side now having the majority of possession, as they looked to find an equaliser. But despite having loads of the ball, they weren’t able to create anything clear cut, yet anyway.
But in the 75th minute, Spurs got their equaliser. With Erik Lamela testing David De Gea with a fierce shot, the ball ricocheted straight to Lucas Moura, who produced an acrobatic volley with his left foot to fire into an empty net, with De Gea planted.
Both sides pushed forward in the final minutes, but no further goal was forthcoming, with a draw probably a fair result.
FIFA 21 predicted score: Manchester United 1-1 Spurs
Here are the full-time match stats.
Tottenham dominated possession at Old Trafford, with Hojbjerg, Ndombele and Lo Celso controlling the game from midfield, particularly in the second-half.
But they needed a slice of luck to score the equaliser, as they found clear opportunities hard to come by, despite having a lot of the ball. FIFA 21 predicts a close fought game, with the match likely to end in a score draw.
As always, this is just a bit of fun ahead of what could be an important game for Spurs this weekend, lets see what happens in real-life on Sunday!
