The club has picked up four points out of nine so far and has been the victim of the latest VAR handball controversy after Eric Dier was penalised as the ball brushed his arm against Newcastle.
Manager Jose Mourinho said Spurs are shown no respect after the match, but a couple of signings before the transfer window shuts may lift spirits in the Tottenham camp.
Spurs, who host Chelsea in the Carabao Cup fourth round tonight, are looking to add new signings to their ranks after securing the services of Sergio Reguilon permanently and Gareth Bale on loan so far.
Here are the very latest Tottenham transfer rumours.
Uncertain times for Alli
Dele Alli has been left out of Tottenham’s match-day squads for two consecutive Premier League games and an ex-striker at the club says he needs a “fresh challenge”.
The England international has been linked with moves to Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
Bent feels that the 24-year-old, who has scored 64 goals in more than 200 games for Spurs, should not be restricted to cup games.
“I think any player comes to a point where they need a fresh challenge,” Bent told talkSPORT.
“I think for Dele Alli, Mourinho has come in, they’ve clashed, and I think he’s thinking, ‘I need a new challenge here’ and I think he deserves that.
“He’s not going to be happy playing Carabao Cup games because they play Chelsea in the week and if they get beat that’s no more Carabao Cup.
Bournemouth star on Spurs’ radar
Striker Joshua King has been linked with Spurs as the club step up their search for a striker ahead of the summer transfer deadline, reports The Telegraph.
Jose Mourinho is considering the 28-year-old as a viable back-up for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
However, Italian club Torino have reportedly opened talks with Bournemouth to sign the Norwegian, who now plies his trade in the Championship.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano says negotiations are underway with King, who scored just shy of 50 Premier League goals for Bournemouth over five years.
Shock Benteke move?
If the King move fails to happen, Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke is reportedly a potential fall-back option.
Football Insider has revealed that the 29-year-old Belgian striker is “jumping” at the possibility of a move.
A recruitment source told the publication that Benteke is keen to kickstart his faltering career, after falling out of favour at Palace.
Mourinho previously tried to sign him when he managed Manchester United.

Benteke has scored 72 goals from 226 Premier League appearances for Palace, Liverpool, and Aston Villa.
As reported by Football.London, Tottenham are plotting a “blockbuster” move for Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar.
Spurs are said to be keen on the defender and may offload Danny Rose, Juan Foyth and Serge Aurier to make the deal happen.
