Former Chelsea midfielder urges West Ham to turn down offers for Declan Rice
Joe Cole has urged West Ham to do all they can to keep hold of Declan Rice amid speculation the midfielder could be on his way to Chelsea this summer.
Rice has become one of the Hammers’ most important players since breaking through in 2015 and has drawn attention from Chelsea. However, Cole, who played for both clubs, wants West Ham to resist offers for their star man.
“It would be a big gamble to let him go because he is the most important player in that dressing room,” Cole told BT Sport (via the Metro ).
“We talk about what he is worth as an asset to the club financially but how much is it worth to stay in the Premier League? When you have got the back three and him and [Tomas] Soucek, and Noble to come in, all of a sudden you have got a nice solid base to build on there.
“We have talked about the disconnect between the ownership group and the fans and I think it will be a step too far if they let him go.”
Chelsea fans unhappy with Marcos Alonso
A number of Chelsea supporters are in agreement that Marcos Alonso could be as good as finished at the club after reports emerged about the Spaniard’s conduct.
The Athletic reports Alonso was given a dressing down in front of his teammates after Frank Lampard learned the left back watched the rest of Chelsea’s 3-3 draw against West Brom having been substituted off.
This led to several Chelsea fans joining in the criticism of Alonso, expressing the widely held view that the Spaniard might find it difficult to force his way back into the first team after this episode.
Alonso faces stuff competition for his place in the Chelsea lineup this season following the arrival of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, with Lampard prioritising the signing of a new left back over the summer.
Frank Lampard confirms midfielder could leave Chelsea on loan
Ruben Loftus-Cheek could leave Chelsea on loan before the transfer window closes next week according to Frank Lampard.
The midfielder has struggled for game time over the past two seasons, spending a long time out through injury, and has been recently linked with a move to Aston Villa. Lampard has confirmed a deal could be agreed.

“He needs to play. He’s done a lot of work now. He would have been playing earlier if it wasn’t for lockdown and restart,” the Blues boss explained.
“There’s a possibility that Ruben may go out to play games because I think that would be great for him. We hold him in very high regard here. I certainly do and that could be a good option for him. If that’s not the right option he’ll be competitive in this squad as well because of the quality that he has and hopefully be a big plus for us.”
