Gnabry admits he ‘wanted to stay’ at Arsenal
Serge Gnabry has opened up on his decision to leave Arsenal, noting that his heart was telling him to stay at the club.
The Bayern Munich winger left the Emirates Stadium in 2016 and joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen before sealing a big move to the Allianz Arena.
Having received limited opportunities at Arsenal, the 25-year-old insists it was the right decision to leave north London even if his heart was telling him to stay.
He told ESPN: “In my heart, I wanted to stay.
“I always believed that I had what it takes to play for Arsenal, but these things are not always down to you. It was a tough decision [to return to Germany] but it was a logical one. I needed to play to get ahead.”
Klopp makes Arsenal claim ahead of Premier League clash
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that he believes Arsenal will finish towards the top of the Premier League this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side travel to the Premier League champions later today after both sides won their opening two games of the season.
Ahead of the clash, Klopp was asked whether or not the unusual circumstances of this season will see an unlikely title contender like Arsenal emerge.
He told the Liverpool Echo : “I don’t think Arsenal are a very good example because last year they came eighth but didn’t have enough time to sort out the situation but, in my opinion, they were not the eighth best team in the league.
“I think they would have qualified easily for a Europa League spot, if not, pip Chelsea.
“The Premier League and these teams with what they do is too much and too good that the season isn’t decided before it is started, so it doesn’t just work like this.”

While Aouar refused to be drawn in on any speculation surrounding a move, he did not indicate that he will be staying at Lyon amid detailed interest from Arsenal.
