Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has already confirmed that the Gunners have made a bid for the playmaker, but indicated that the offer was rejected.
“At Lyon there will be very few departures: for Houssem, Arsenal is much too far from his value,” Aulas wrote on Twitter. “We count on him to make a big game in Lorient and lead OL in Champions League next year.”
And now football.london understands the north London outfit are ready to increase their offer to £36.5million (€40million) with a further £9million in potential add-ons (€10million).
It remains to be seen if that bid satisfies the demands of Aulas, but some Arsenal fans are convinced a transfer announcement is imminent after spotting a possible hint.
On the Lyon’s official Twitter account, they are talking up a landmark day for Aouar ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Ligue 1 clash away at Lorient.
If selected by Lyon boss Rudi Garcia, Aouar will reach a century of appearances for the club and the aforementioned tweet is a video clip of the 22-year-old’s achievements in the top-flight of French football.
As expected, this has garnered some attention from Arsenal supporters.
Judging by the response of some fans on social media, they think the video is a farewell message.

As revealed by Lyon sporting director Juninho, Aouar would be the dream signing for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
“Houssem Aouar is really well liked by Arteta,” said Juninho. “There were some discussions for [Matteo] Guendouzi, who is also a good player. He was brought up during the discussion.
“But we don’t need his profile, we were very clear. If it is like that, we are not interested at all, we cut the conversation, that is where things ended.”
