Branislav Ivanovic to miss Chelsea reunion as Slaven Bilic confirms West Brom team news
Former Chelsea legend Branislav Ivanovic is set to miss out on a reunion with his former club when the Blues take on West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
The Serbian international only recently joined West Brom on a free transfer from Zenit Saint Petersburg after spending three years in Russia.
Asked whether Ivanovic will make his Premier League debut this weekend, Slaven Bilic admitted it was unlikely as the defender is still building up his fitness.
“He didn’t play for a long time, on the one hand, and he’s lacking a few games,” Bilic explained to Birmingham Live . “Of course he’s going to get better and better.
“He played one game against Brentford, 60 minutes, looked good. Still, he’s a bit short of match practice, but he can only get them from matches.
“I’m still not sure about the Chelsea game.
“Maybe it’s coming a bit too soon for him, but he’s not that far from being fit.”
Frank Lampard coy on Toni Rudiger, Jorginho futures at Chelsea as transfer speculation mounts
The Blues are preparing to sell several first-team players after a busy summer that saw a string of high-profile arrivals.
That has seen reports surface in recent days indicating that Jorginho could be about to swap Stamford Bridge for the Emirates, with Arsenal said to be interested in the Italian international.
“I don’t expect anything in the window, because they are our players and that’s a fact,” Lampard said.
“There are lots of rumours about those players and others too, so every player would always be a case-by-case situation and one that would be a happy solution for the player, for myself and the club.
The Chelsea boss was equally as coy regarding talk of Rudiger leaving the club. Chelsea are keen to secure Declan Rice from West Ham, but they know that they would need to move some players on first and Rudiger could be one of them.
“Again they are rumours, I can’t talk about these things, but when players are either ours it’s not my position to speculate on what may be, and the same on the other side from players from other clubs the same. I’ll continue that way.”
