Mikel Arteta breaks his silence amid talk of shock Jorginho to Arsenal transfer
Mikel Arteta has commented on reports suggesting Arsenal are interested in Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.
The Gunners are looking to improve their midfield options and have been heavily linked with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
Asked about the links to Jorginho, Arteta was unwilling to confirm the club’s interest.
“We are still open to improve our team,” said Arteta. “We are looking for different options depending on what happens with our players here.
“I cannot open up on players that play for a different team and their qualities. It’s not appropriate.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says exactly what Arsenal fans want to hear about Mikel Arteta
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta ahead of their meeting in the Premier League on Monday night.
The pair meet at Anfield on Monday, and it will be the third clash since July, with the Gunners aiming to emerge victorious for a third time.
“Mikel Arteta has shown in a short period of time he seems an exceptional football manager,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference, as per the Liverpool Echo. The structure of his team is exceptional; the balance of the team is really good.
“He has changed the whole mood of the club. Arsenal defend properly. All the players are involved in defending.
“They defend in a 5-4-1 and when you have quality players that makes it tricky for the opposition, especially when they have speed in the counter-attack.
“I can say a lot of positive things about Arsenal because they are true, but I still think we have a chance on Monday night.”

Atletico are keen to see the Gunners trigger the player’s £45million release clause, and are refusing to negotiate.
Running parallel to those discussions are talks involving Lucas Torreira. The Uruguayan looks set to leave Arsenal this summer and had been linked with a return to Serie A.
Atletico have emerged as the new frontrunners, and Goal is reporting that while the two are trying to reach an agreement, Atletico will not discuss Partey.
