After defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 on the opening day of the campaign, the Blues were brought back down to earth on Sunday as they were beaten 2-0 at Stamford Bridge by reigning champions Liverpool, proving that they still have a long way to go before they can begin to think about challenging at the top of the table.
Two second half goals from Sadio Mane compounded the Blues to their first league defeat of the campaign, highlighting the fact that Frank Lampard will need time to work out the best system for his crop of new talent.
And despite having spent more than £200million on new faces this summer, Chelsea are still keen to add more players to the squad, with Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy poised to be the next arrival at Stamford Bridge.
With just under two weeks of the summer transfer window remaining, here is a round-up of the very latest Chelsea transfer rumours.
PSG in talks over Bakayoko deal
French giants Paris Saint-Germain are locked in discussions with Chelsea about the prospect of signing midfield enforcer Tiemoue Bakayoko.
After spending the 2018/19 season on loan at AC Milan, it seemed apparent that the French midfielder was poised to return to the Italian giants on loan once again.
However, according to ESPN, via Chelsea News, the midfielder, who joined the Blues from AS Monaco back in July 2017, could now be on his way to the French capital to link up with PSG.
It is reported that the Ligue 1 club would prefer to sign Bakayoko on a loan-to-buy deal, but Chelsea are holding out for a permanent deal, as they look to move the midfielder on once and for all.
Chelsea make Kante decision
Chelsea have made the decision to put midfield star N’Golo Kante on the transfer list in an attempt to fund a move for long-term target Declan Rice.
That is according to transfer expert Ian McGarry, as per the Daily Express, who says Chelsea are wanting to offload Kante as a way that could raise funds to make a move for West Ham United ace Rice.
Rice, who started his youth career at Stamford Bridge, has been heavily linked with a move to West London over the last few months, with Lampard keen to add the England international to his ranks.
West Ham value Rice at £73million, meaning Chelsea are only too well aware that they will have to offload players in an effort to convince him to swap the London Stadium for Stamford Bridge.
Blues set Emerson price
Having added Leicester City and England left-back Ben Chilwell to their ranks during this summer’s transfer window, Chelsea are keen to cut their cloth as far as their left-back options are concerned.

The Blues are ready to offload Italian Emerson Palmieri, with both Marcos Alonso and Chilwell now ahead of him in the pecking order.
The 26-year-old is now thought to be attracting the interest of Juventus, with manager Andrea Pirlo, who recently succeeded former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri in Turin, looking to strengthen the club’s left-back options.
And according to a report by Sport Witness, Chelsea will allow the defender to leave ahead of the October 5 deadline if they can secure €25million for his services.
