Tariq Lamptey has got Chelsea fans and their rivals talking as Brighton star runs Newcastle ragged

It has been a superb start to the season for Brighton & Hove Albion’s former Chelsea defender Tariq Lamptey.

After impressing against his old side on Monday night as the Blues won 3-1 against Brighton at the Amex Stadium, Lamptey has been the star of the show for the Seagulls against Newcastle United this afternoon.

Lamptey won the penalty early on as Brighton made a fast start at St James’ Park, with Neal Maupay scoring twice in the first ten minutes to give Graham Potter’s men a 2-0 lead.

And Lamptey continues to be one of Brighton’s big success stories, with the 19-year-old tormenting the Newcastle defenders in the first half of the Premier League clash.

But his performance has got Chelsea fans and their rivals talking, after Lamptey left the Blues to join Brighton in January.

Here’s what they have been saying on social media.

His tenacious displays and committed performances have impressed Albion supporters and his manager, Graham Potter, who was heavily involved in bringing the teenager to the Amex in the winter transfer window.

This is not the first time that Blues supporters made their feelings known about the 19-year-old, and many have raised a pertinent question about Lamptey and the west London club.

It is understood though that no buy-back clause exists, with Lamptey turning down a contract offer from Chelsea and leaving the club in pursuit of regular first team football.
