After a perfect few days both on and off the pitch, Spurs, who re-signed Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale on loan yesterday, will be aiming to record their first Premier League victory of the season.
Jose Mourinho’s side fell to a flat, lifeless 1-0 home defeat to Everton in their first league outing of the campaign last weekend, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s second half header securing all three points for the Merseyside outfit.
But after a Europa League victory over Lokomotiv Plovd on Thursday evening, combined with the additions of Sergio Reguilon and Bale yesterday, Spurs’ supporters will be hoping that those factors have given the squad a much-needed boost after last Sunday’s disappointments.
Though Reguilon and Bale, who have taken shirt numbers three and nine respectively at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, will play no part in today’s contest, Spurs fans are bound to be feeling more upbeat heading into the 12pm kick-off at St Mary’s.
Southampton, too, will be looking to secure their first points of the campaign after being beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season last weekend.
And our Tottenham correspondents, Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest, will be on hand to guide you through this afternoon’s match so don’t go anywhere.
