Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Chelsea’s other injury concerns for Liverpool visit

Frank Lamaprd already has a number of injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s opening home game against champions Liverpool, with Hakim Ziyech among those confirmed absent.

The Morocco international will be out for a number of weeks because of a knee issue and a return date is not yet penciled in.

Fellow new recruit Ben Chilwell is continuing to step up his recovery from a foot issue and is progressing nicely but the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side, who defeated Leeds United 4-3 in their opening fixture at Anfield, may come too soon despite training with the group for the first time this week.

Thiago Silva, however, could be in line for his debut after signing as a free agent.

Christian Pulisic is set to miss out after suffering a setback upon his return to training last week following a hamstring injury.

“With Christian, he was training with us last week and had a little bit of discomfort when he was trying to train with us to be in contention for today,” Lampard told football.london on Monday.

“It would have been a big ask for today but he has had to take a few steps back so we’ll have to see. That’s one that I don’t have big news on at the minute. We’ll need to wait and see.”

Billy Gilmour remains a long-term absentee after knee surgery late last season but Jorginho and Timo Werner will be fit after picking up knocks against Brighton. Mateo Kovacic is also available after serving a suspension against Brighton.

Lampard said that Jorginho, who was substituted, was likely suffering from cramp, while Werner suffered a dead leg when winning the penalty scored by the Italian in the first half.

The German strapped ice around his right leg at full-time but said it is nothing to worry about and he will always be fit for games like Liverpool.
