The Gunners are back in action on Saturday as they take on newly-promoted Fulham in the first game of the 2020/21 season.
In preparation for that match, Mikel Arteta has been putting his team through their paces with a number of pre-season games, the latest of which saw Arsenal face Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.
The game ended in defeat for Arsenal, but Aubameyang carried on from where he left off in the Community Shield by scoring a brace.
But it was Aubameyang’s first goal which left supporters impressed, after a short clip emerged on social media.
The video was filmed by Aubameyang’s father and uploaded to his Instagram story.
Arsenal fans responded with tweets like: “Best striker in the world,” and “Oh that’s absolutely beautiful that. He’s getting used to scoring outside the area too! He’s not slowing down one bit.”
Another wrote: “He’s brilliant.”
It is understood that Aubameyang is on the verge of putting pen-to-paper on a new three-year contract at the Emirates, with his current deal expiring next summer.
Gunners first team manager Mikel Arteta has repeatedly reiterated that he is hopeful Aubameyang will sign fresh terms, and football.london understands that an agreement on a new £250,000-a-week deal is close.
Speaking last month, Arteta said he was “pretty confident” his star player would commit his future to the north London side.
The 31-year-old Gabon striker proved his importance to the Gunners with both goals in the FA Cup final win over Chelsea, and Arsenal’s only goal in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool.
“We have had some really good talks with him and his agent and I am pretty confident we will find an agreement soon. That’s my feeling,” said Arteta.
