Mourinho ‘makes contact’ with left-back target
Tottenham are very much in the running for Sergio Reguilon, who looks destined to leave Real Madrid this year.
The left-back spent last season on loan at Sevilla, helping them win the Europa League, but his parent club appear ready to sell the academy graduate if a buy-back clause is inserted.
According to AS (via Sport Witness ), Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has personally contacted the defender, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United over the summer.
Reguilon made his Real Madrid debut under Julen Lopetegui in 2018 but fell out of favour under Zinedine ZIdane and was reunited with Lopetegui in Seville.
He played 38 games in all competitions last season, including a 90-minute run-out as Sevilla beat Inter Milan in the Europa League final.
Surprise new suitor emerges for out-of-favour Rose
Danny Rose remains on Tottenham’s books after returning from his loan move to Newcastle United, but was nowhere to be seen for the recent pre-season defeat at Watford.
The left-back has failed to find a new employer, but there has been interest from Serie A ahead of the new campaign.
According to Tutto Mercato (via HITC ), Cagliari are interested in the England international, who played 12 league games for Spurs last season.
Cagliari finished 14th in Serie A last season and have brought in Eusebio di Francesco as their new manager ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
They are in need of reinforcements at left-back after Luca Pellegrini – who spent last season on loan at the Sardegna Arena – returned to parent club Juventus.
If Spurs are able to secure one of their left-back targets, they could be tempted to let Rose leave in this window and avoid losing him on a free when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Former Denmark boss explains why Hojbjerg will be perfect for Mourinho
Age Hareide and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg didn’t always see eye to eye when working together with the Danish national team, but the former coach has had good things to say about the new Tottenham midfielder.
The pair had a bust-up back in 2016, but Hojbjerg had returned to the fold by 2018 and narrowly missed out on a spot in Hareide’s World Cup squad.
And, according to the manager , the former Southampton and Bayern Munich man has matured and will be a good fit for Mourinho.
“He may have thought a bit individually at first, he was concerned with himself, but he is a very good team player now,” Hareide, now back in charge of Norwegian club Rosenborg, told Nettavisen .

“I think players often change a lot with experience and age. Then you realize that the team is the most important thing to be good yourself, and not the other way around.”
“I reckon that Mourinho intends to use him when he has invested in him,” added Hareide, who described Hojbjerg as a player who “deals with things”.
The midfielder has featured in both of his country’s Uefa Nations League games under new Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand, playing 90 minutes against Belgium and coming off the bench in the goalless draw against England.
