Edouard Mendy’s main strength is Kepa’s big weakness as Chelsea close on £25m transfer
It would seem the next new face at Stamford Bridge will be Edouard Mendy.
The Senegalese international is currently plying his trade with Rennes in Ligue 1 but is edging towards a move to the Premier League. The 28-year-old is undoubtedly an under the radar signing when compared to the other options the club have been linked with.
Alan Smith has looked into Mendy’s strengths and weaknesses and explained why the goalkeeper’s biggest strength is actually Kepa’s weakness. You can read that piece here .
Frank Lampard has told Roman Abramovich how he plans to avoid becoming the next Antonio Conte
Frank Lampard has opened up on how he intends to avoid being sacked.
The Chelsea boss completed his first season in charge by securing the club a place in the Champions League. The club subsequently went on a spending spree of sorts to secure several high-profile targets and improve Lampard’s squad.
That has put the pressure on Lampard to deliver next season, with some speculating that a poor season could see the 42-year-old sacked.
“I agree with you, and I think you have to be understanding that you’re coming to the messy patch,” Lampard said. “Because you have to accept that. And I think our messy patch probably happened actually back end of the season.
“I think we achieved a lot this season, because nobody expected us to come in the top four.
“But we lost a cup final, and then we lost to Bayern Munich. And it’s a bitter taste for me, I go away and I have a bad feel about those games. So I understand that those issues and problems will come again next year.”
He went onto add: “It’s just that I, and we as staff, have to double down. We have to work harder. We have to analyze why we conceded 50 goals this year, and not just me saying, yeah, it’s because of him, and he could have done better. What could have I done to do better? So the messy patch is always going to come.
“Even if you’re Liverpool now, who this year were absolutely incredible. I’m sure Jurgen Klopp has not had his feet up for the last three weeks going, okay, what great players we’ve got. We’re just going to kill it again next year. It will be, where is next.
“So my version of that has to be, how can I keep going and improving, and be ready for the messy patch.”
