And, after ending last season in style by winning the FA Cup, the Gunners have welcomed a few new faces to the Emirates Stadium.
However, Mikel Arteta is keen to add more quality to his squad with just under four weeks left of the transfer window. Here are Wednesday morning’s Arsenal transfer rumours.
Arsenal offered Areola deal
Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, according to the Daily Mirror .
The Gunners may be in the market for a back-up option for Bernd Leno with Emiliano Martinez linked to Aston Villa.
Areola came through the French champions’ youth academy, although he spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old failed to establish himself in the Spanish capital, however, managing only four La Liga appearances with Zinedine Zidane preferring Thibaut Courtois.
Areola has also previously had spells at Lens, Bastia and Villarreal.
Villa keen to land Martinez before new season
As for Martinez, Aston Villa want to secure the Argentine’s services before their season-opener against Sheffield United.
Villa face the Blades on September 21 with their first game against Manchester City having been pushed back.
As per the Daily Mail , Villa have offered £15million for Martinez, who impressed while deputising for injured first-choice stopper Leno during the latter stages of the 2019/20 season.
Martinez has rejected Arsenal’s offer of a new contract with the 28-year-old reportedly determined to play regular first-team football.
Martinez has had six loan spells away from Arsenal having been with the club since 2010.
Lyon not keen on Guendouzi
Lyon have told Arsenal they are not interested in signing Matteo Guendouzi as part of a deal that would see Houssem Aouar move to the north Londoners.
Arsenal have expressed interest in Aouar, 22, following the midfielder’s impressive performances in Lyon’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.

However, Lyon sporting director Juninho has revealed the French side will not accept Guendouzi as a makeweight in any potential deal.
“I get on very well with Edu, we spoke on the phone. Aouar is really appreciated by Mikel Arteta,” Juninho told RMC Sport .
“Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile. We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.”
