Frank Lampard could benefit from Thiago Silva masterstroke as Chelsea transfer explained

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Thursday, August 27.

Ben Chilwell’s first words

Chelsea landed another recruit on Wednesday, confirming the signing of full-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, and the England international spoke about his deal.

“I obviously wanted to play for a massive club but talking to Frank before I came was one of the main reasons I wanted to come.

“He installed a lot of confidence in me and told me how the system suits the way I play. He seemed a really good guy you can talk to about stuff away from football.

“That’s very important for a young player, a manager you can get on with and talk to stuff about. He’s very keen on young players, you can see that since he’s been here. Talking to him was a massive reason for me wanting to come.”

Frank Lampard’s Thiago Silva plan

Thiago Silva played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Now 35, Silva doesn’t have too long left at the top. But signing him on a one-year contract could prove to be a masterstroke from Chelsea.

Blues fans will hope he can play a similar role to that of John Terry in 2014/15. Chelsea won the Premier League title under Jose Mourinho that year, and their long-serving captain was influential both on and off the pitch.

Frank Lampard won’t expect Silva to be ever-present in 2020/21, even if he did play in the majority of PSG’s matches last time out.

Rangers slammed for Billy Gilmour treatment

Former Celtic man Frank McAvennie believes that Rangers need to learn lessons from Billy Gilmour’s treatment at the club, after he departed Glasgow to move to Chelsea.

“I am a great believer that if you are good enough you will make the team and Patterson is very close,” he told Football Insider.

“I just do not understand why Rangers did not see what everyone else saw in Billy Gilmour. I do not get it. Can you imagine Gilmour at Rangers now? I am delighted he isn’t there!”
