Ivan Gazidis’ masterplan crumbles
Ivan Gazidis’ masterplan, bringing together the brightest minds in talent identification (Sven Mislintat), player preparation (Darren Burgess) and negotiation (Raul Sanllehi), has crumbled – James Benge writes.
Gazidis said on his departure for AC Milan: “Arsenal is entering a new chapter and I have done everything I can to ensure that it is strongly placed to take on that challenge. This includes world-class facilities and outstanding leaders in every sector who carry the values of the club.”
More of Gazidis’ men moved on until only Sanllehi was left. With his departure this new Arsenal has been unravelled in scarcely two years.
Arsenal receive bad FA Cup omen
Arsenal’s last defeat in the Community Shield came in 2005 against Chelsea, which was played in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and three ties have been won since.
However, the omens do not look particularly good for Arteta’s side heading into this year’s match as the appointment of Andre Marriner could be seen as a negative.
Arsenal have played in just three matches under Marriner in the past two seasons but have failed to win any of those matches, including a penalty shoot-out defeat to Liverpool in the fourth round of last season’s Carabao Cup.
Prior to that, Marriner oversaw two draws in the Premier League that Arsenal were involved in against Jurgen Klopp’s side and Manchester United.

Reports in France have stated that the Gunners are the prime candidates to land the Brazilian but Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport has it differently.
They claim the 22-year-old has a ‘moral agreement’ with Napoli but they cannot complete a move until the futures of Kalidou Koulibaly and others are resolved.
As such, it’s added that the defender’s agent has placed a two-week deadline on the transfer saga.
