Ashley Cole makes surprising Alexandre Lacazette and Ian Wright comparison

Former Arsenal defender Ashley Cole has stated that Alexandre Lacazette reminds him of Gunners legend Ian Wright – a comparison that has raised eyebrows.

Lacazette has faced a battle for a starting role in Mikel Arteta’s side with Eddie Nketiah and has been criticised by fans for a lack of consistency in front of goal.

The France striker returned to the Gunners‘ starting lineup for the 1-1 draw with fellow European chasers Leicester City, with the Frenchman seeing a goal chalked off for offside and Cole made a surprising observation ahead of the match.

“Lacazette reminds me of an Ian Wright-type of striker. I think they’ve got that connection, the understand together (Aubameyang and Lacazette) and with Saka on the other side, I think them three are very, very dangerous,” he told Sky Sports.

Wright is Arsenal’s second all-time leading goalscorer, behind Thierry Henry, and enjoys legendary status at the club, while many fans believe there is still plenty of work for Lacazette to do.

In comparison, Lacazette has scored 46 goals for the Gunners in all competitions – with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, his strike partner who arrived at the club later, hitting more in the Premier League alone.

There have also been some questions about Lacazette’s future at the club recently, with Juventus and Atletico Madrid reported to hold an interest in his services.
