Tottenham thought they had grabbed an immediate equaliser to Sander Berge’s opening goal for the Blades, only to sell the goal chalked off by VAR.
Lucas Moura appeared to be fouled and as the ball broke away from him, Jack Robinson fired the ball off the Brazilian’s arm and into Kane’s path, who turned the ball past Dean Henderson.
Under IFAB regulations, the letter of the law states any involvement of the arm, accidental or otherwise, that leads to a goal must be penalised.
However, despite admitting VAR followed the correct protocol, Redknapp was left furious and believes that the goal should have stood.
“This is one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen, I can honestly say, since VAR got introduced. I know it’s in the letter of the law, but we have to show common sense,” Redknapp said at half-time on Sky Sports.
“A player’s been fouled. When you fall over, you have to put your arms down to protect yourself. He gets fouled by three players there.
“It’s an obvious foul. The ball then gets ricocheted onto his arm, falls to Kane, who finishes it well. The fact that we can go back to this. Look, it’s accidental, he’s not meant it.

“Why can’t we show common sense in times like this? It’s difficult for Michael Oliver. He’s the best referee in the Premier League but he’s looking at VAR, thinking what do I do? I
“t’s the letter of the law, but it’s common sense. That’s a horrendous decision. If anyone says this is working, then they’ve got it completely wrong! It’s ruining football, things like this.”
